Jan Olbrycht is a doctor of sociology, lecturer, expert, politician and social activist. From 1990 to 1998, he chaired the Polish delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. From 2000 to 2004, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Assembly of European Regions and a member of the National Council for Regional Policy.
In the current ninth term of the European Parliament (2019-2024), Jan Olbrycht is Vice-Chair of the EPP Group, sits on the Committee on Budgets and is a substitute member of the Committee on Regional Development. He is also Vice-Coordinator of the EPP Group in the Committee on Budgets and the European Parliament's permanent rapporteur on the multiannual financial framework (MFF).
He is also the founder, member and chair of the URBAN Intergroup in the European Parliament. In addition, he is a member of the Delegation for relations with Canada and a substitute member of the Delegation to the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee.
Jan Olbrycht continues to serve as co-chair of the EPP Group's working group on intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
He has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2004.
