She is the Ambassador of Finland to Poland since 9/2022. Prior to that she was the Ambassador of Finland to Ukraine since 2019 and a roving ambassador to Iraq in 2016-19.

Päivi Maarit Laine got a master's degree in history from in Tampere University. During her studies, she participated in student exchange programs with the University of Manchester, UK, and the University of Warsaw, Poland.

Since 1995, she has been working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. She was a member of the Finnish diplomatic mission in Riga, London, Warsaw and Moscow. She also served as Ambassador of Finland to Iraq.
