Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. A doctor, local government official and community activist, Member of Parliament and politician. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Łódź. A specialist in internal medicine. He completed postgraduate studies in the organisation and economics of healthcare, as well as postgraduate management studies in public administration at the Faculty of Management, University of Warsaw. Since 1984, he has been a member of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) and serves on the party’s provincial and national governing bodies. Member of the European People’s Party (EPP). Senator of the Republic of Poland from 1991 to 2001 (2nd, 3rd and 4th terms). He was a member of the Senate committees on Social Policy and Health, and on Emigration and Poles Abroad. From 1993 to 1997, he served as Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. Since Poland’s accession to the EU, he has been a member of the Committee of the Regions; in 2010, he was appointed to its Bureau. He participates in the work of the following commissions: COTER (Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and the EU Budget), ENVE (Commission for the Environment, Climate Change and Energy), as well as Joint Consultative Committees and working groups, including those on health. He has served continuously as Marshal of the Mazovia Voivodeship since December 2001.
