Prof. Marcin Moniuszko graduated with honors from the Medical University of Białystok (then the Medical Academy of Białystok) in 1999. He was a recipient of the "Primus Inter Pares" Gold Badge, awarded to the country's top students. Following his studies, he completed several international research fellowships; notably, he spent three years working in the United States at the prestigious National Cancer Institute (Bethesda), part of the National Institutes of Health. While in the U.S., he investigated the mechanisms of immune dysfunction associated with retroviral infections and explored the potential of modern immunomodulatory therapies based on vaccination and cytokine administration. After returning to Poland, he received a scholarship from the weekly magazine "Polityka" in 2004 and a scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science in 2005. He earned his doctoral degree in 2005 with a dissertation titled "Evaluation of the effect of interleukin-7 administration on T-lymphocyte phenotype and function – experimental studies." In 2010, based on his research achievements to date and a dissertation titled "The impact of chronic allergic airway inflammation and steroid therapy on the phenotype of monocytes/macrophages and T-lymphocytes" he obtained the degree of "doctor of science" in medical sciences. In 2016, he was awarded the title of professor in recognition of his overall body of scientific work. He has worked at the Department of Allergology and Internal Medicine since 2004 and has served as its head since 2018. He holds medical specializations in internal medicine and allergology. In 2012, he established the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Immunoregulation at the Medical University of Białystok. Marcin Moniuszko is a Full Professor at the Medical University of Białystok (MUB). Since 2016, he has served as the Vice-Rector for Science (and since 2019, as the Vice-Rector for Science and Development) at the university. Previously, he headed the doctoral studies program at the Faculty of Health Sciences and later co-organized the country’s first inter-faculty doctoral program in English—focusing on biomedicine and biostatistics—run jointly by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy. He led one of the few European Commission "COFUND" grants awarded to Poland under the Horizon 2020 program—titled "Impress: Supporting the career and training in omic-based research and biostatistics by international and intersectoral mobility"—which resulted in the creation of another interdisciplinary, international doctoral program in English within the fields of biomedicine and biostatistics. He co-authored the concept for establishing the MUB Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. He is also the lead author of the proposal outlining MUB’s scientific development strategy, which was distinguished by an international panel of experts during the "Excellence Initiative – Research University" (IDUB) competition. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Main Board of the Polish Society of Allergology, serving as its Vice-President since 2021. From 2019 to 2024, he chaired the Council of the Medical Research Agency. He has served on the board of the Białystok Branch of the Polish Society of Experimental and Clinical Immunology. His accolades include awards from the Minister of Health and the Rector of MUB, as well as the Prof. Jan Sznajd Special Award from the Foundation for the Development of Laboratory Diagnostics, recognizing his outstanding achievements in the field of laboratory diagnostics. Professor Moniuszko serves as a reviewer for renowned journals in the fields of immunology, allergology, and cell biology, and is a member of the editorial boards of "Stem Cell Reviews and Reports" and the "Central European Journal of Immunology", among others. He has authored and co-authored numerous papers describing the role of genomic and metabolomic profile changes in the pathogenesis, progression, and treatment response associated with a range of lifestyle-related diseases. His body of work includes numerous publications in prestigious scientific journals, such as "Nature Communications", "Blood", "Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology", "Journal of Immunology", "Cancer and Metastasis Reviews", "Molecular Cancer", and "Cancer Letters", among many others.
