Dr Paweł Kułak is Principal Counsel at the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) in Helsinki, leading the legal structuring and execution of complex financing transactions across the Nordic-Baltic region. In this role, he supports the Bank’s strategic lending activities, leveraging extensive expertise in corporate and international law, finance, public-private partnerships, negotiations, and project management. NIB is an international financial institution owned by eight Nordic and Baltic countries, with a mission to strengthen competitiveness, sustainability and the resilience of the Nordic-Baltic region. Before joining NIB, he worked at the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg, leading and supporting legal aspects of financing projects across the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Partnership countries, Central Asia, Turkey, and the Balkans. He began his career at Clifford Chance and later CMS in Poland and also supported HSBC's financing operations as a consultant seconded from CMS. Throughout his career, he has structured, negotiated, and implemented innovative financing solutions for major cross-border projects involving governments, public sector entities, international financial institutions, commercial lenders, and private-sector sponsors. His work has contributed to economic development, resilience, energy transition, and sustainable growth. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Białystok and an MBA for Executives from Aalto University in Helsinki. He has also completed executive education programs at leading U.S. institutions such as Harvard University, Stanford University, and Yale. He is a qualified attorney-at-law and a member of the Warsaw Bar of Attorneys.
