From 2002-2005, Resident Fellow of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., and Executive Director of the New Atlantic Initiative. Minister of Defense from 2005-2007, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2007-2014, and Speaker of the Sejm from 2014-2015. From 2019 to 2023, Member of the European Parliament, where he served as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense, and as Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with the United States. Senior Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University. As Minister of Foreign Affairs together with Carl Bild, he initiated the EU's Eastern Partnership. Initiator of the European Endowment for Democracy and the Solidarity Prize. In 2014, during the Euromaidan, he led the European Union's diplomatic mission in Kyiv. From 2010 to 2016, he was deputy chairman of the Civic Platform, and from 2026, deputy chairman of the Civic Coalition.
