Zane Petre is an experienced Latvian diplomat with extensive expertise in European affairs, international relations and cooperation within the European Union. She began her career at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997, where she held various positions, including European Correspondent in the Office of the Political Director and Head of the International Operations and Crisis Management Division. She also served at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union in Brussels and at Latvia’s diplomatic mission in Moldova. In 2012, she joined the European External Action Service. From 2012 to 2016, she served as Head of the Political, Press and Information Unit at the EU Delegation to Eritrea. From 2016 to 2020, she was Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Nepal and Head of its Political, Press and Information Team. In September 2020, she joined the Ukraine Support Group within the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations. From April 2021, she served as Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia. In 2025, she returned to Latvia’s foreign service as Under-Secretary of State for European Affairs. In 2026, she represents Latvia in consultations on European Union policy, regional cooperation, security, EU enlargement and the future Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union.
